On the evening of 27 June, coordinated IED attacks targeted two buses travelling in Kirkuk City, killing two civilians and wounding as many as 26 others. These dual attacks occurred one month after the headlining 30 May coordinated IED attacks in Kirkuk, which killed 3-5 individuals and wounded dozens of others. To recall, the 30 May attacks formed the most significant high-impact in Kirkuk City thus far in 2019, and formed the most significant IS attack affecting a major urban center in Iraq during Ramadan. Several suspected IS members were arrested in connection with the 30 May attacks. However, the 27 June attacks confirmed initial expectations that the organization would prove capable of repeating similar IED attacks in Kirkuk on an intermittent basis.
